  1. The new law will deal with public information that misleads consumers
  2. The consumer can file a complaint in any consumer court of the country
  3. The new law includes online and teleshopping companies for the first time.
  4. Companies involved in adulteration of food items have been fined and jailed.
  5. Organization of the Consumer Mediation Cell. Both parties can go to the mediation cell with consent
  6. PIL i.e. Public Interest Application can also now be filed in the Consumer Forum. This could not have happened before
  7. Up to 1 crore cases can be filed in the Consumer Court
  8. State Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission to hear cases ranging from Rs 1 crore to Rs 10 crore
  9. National Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission to hear cases worth over Rs 10 crore

It is worth mentioning that the Defense Act 2019 was drafted a long time ago. However, the law was to come into force a few months ago. However, it was avoided due to corona and lockdown. Its implementation will start from next week.
